Evergreen College Professor Simona Sharoni (http://www.simonasharoni.com/) describes herself as an “internationally-known feminist scholar,
researcher and activist. She holds a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University and is the author of Gender and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: The Politics of Women's Resistance, (Syracuse University Press, 1995). Simona taught at Haifa University in Israel, American University in Washington DC, The Evergreen State College and St. Martin's University in Olympia, WA and the University of Oregon In Eugene, OR. Starting in the Fall of 2007, she will join the faculty at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh as professor of Women's Studies.”
Evergreen College is well known for its radical leftist faculty that promotes a deliberate Marxist and anarchist agenda against the United States and Israel. Professor Sharoni is no exception. Rachel Corrie, (http://www.stoptheism.com/Default.asp?M=24&T=140) the International Solidarity Movement
(http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6233) activist who was killed playing chicken with an Israeli bulldozer that was
destroying weapons smuggling tunnels to kill Jews in Israel, was one of Sharoni’s “dear and beloved” students who Sharoni influenced to go to Gaza to serve what Sharoni has called
What is “compassionate resistance”? Well, it would seem to be anything Professor Sharoni says it is, as long as it is support of the Palestinian cause against Israel and in support of anyone she herself deems as disenfranchised or a victim of “ racism ” (unless that racism is against Jews living in the Holy Land).
Professor Sharoni uses extensively the buzz words and sound bites of the Palestinian revolution frequently hurled about by the International Solidarity Movement, the Commuist/Anarchist front for the PLO: Israel’s Security Fence is an “apartheid wall “ set up to promote racism against Arabs, not to stop terrorists; “humiliation” is also a big favorite word of hers when referring to the checkpoints set up
to stop suicide bombers who kill Arabs and Jews alike. Professor Sharoni states with all the authority of a college professor who really doesn’t know what she’s talking about that the IDF sets up checkpoints
“arbitrarily” in the West Bank simply to inconvenience the Arab
population, not to preempt terrorism. She openly boasts about a
demonstration of her cohorts in Women in Black,
(http://www.womeninblack.net/mission.html) an ISM-affiliated
organization she helped co-found, that talks about a two state solution but whose members claim all of Israel is “occupied Palestine.” WIB never protests Palestinian atrocities against Jews and even supported Saddam Hussein’s regime before the last Gulf War. To them, peace is achieved by acquiescing to the enemy and just blaming the “oppression” of America and Israel in “solidarity” with similar communist anarchist, pan-Arab and Muslim groups when war occurs. And, of course, Professor Sharoni uses the same word “solidarity” to describe her one-sided lectures that she claims are helping fight “oppression” in the world. She speaks of
“post-colonialism” (you know, the capitalist/imperialist conspiracy to rule the world) and urges us to understand the “plurality of differences among us” (which means embrace those out to destroy you or else be branded a racist by them as they themselves practice racism against those who do not believe as they do).
Professor Sharoni has described a demonstration by Women in Black at the Kalandria Checkpoint in the West Bank where she objected to IDF security personnel screening against terrorist attacks
(http://www.zoa.org/2004/01/palestinian_ara_39.htm) and complained it received no international attention, probably because of Israel’s
unilateral withdrawal from Gaza at the same time. Of course, she is mute on the 100 missiles fired at day care centers and schools in Sderot (http://sderotmedia.com/?p=299) over the last week from Gaza since then. To Professor Sharoni, checkpoints and a wall set up to stop terrorists in advance
(http://www.youtube.com/jp.swf?video_id=b_r0H_gos5I&eurl=http%3A//bl108w.blu108.mail.live.com/mail/ReadMessageLight.aspx%3FAux%3D4%257c0%257c8C9D598B1A289F0%257c%26FolderID%3D00000000-0&iurl=http%3A//img.youtube.com/vi/b_r0H_gos5I/default.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskI1-0h_TM45ItI7kWaCEcY_) are not “compassionate resistance,” even if they do not involve shooting anyone, however, her supporting the terrorist groups that want those security features removed to continue the killing apparently is. How unfortunate that Professor Sharoni did not tour Israeli schools in Sderot also with her five-year-old.
Simona Sharoni came from a Rumanian immigrant family that settled in Israel in the area of Nazareth after the Holocaust. She mentions in passing how members of her family want nothing to do with her, which is understandable. She says they told her as a kindergartner to not associate with Arabs. But she found Arabs could be her friends, ergo, today she urges acceptance of every word Arabs say against Israel as fact and deserving of one-sided support by her. The fact that even Israel’s Knesset has Arabs in it and 20% of Israel is Arab with equal civil rights means nothing to her. The fact the Palestinian Authority runs by Sharia Law and insists Jews cannot live in a Palestinian state also plays no part in her logic. She is “resisting” their “oppression” through her “compassion.” What a pity that Jews in Israel are not as equally deserving of such compassion from her.
According to Sharoni, Nazareth belongs to the Arabs entirely and was seized by the Jews during the “Nakba” (the Arab word for “catastrophe” referring to founding of the state of Israel) and built on “Palestinian land” to “ethnically cleanse” the Galilee. She also says that East Jerusalem is “an integral part of Palestine” even though the Temple Mount is located there and the Muslim Waqf routinely destroys
Jewish artifacts and forbids Jewish worship there. It seems “ethnic cleansing” to Professor Sharoni is limited only to Israeli self-defense, even though Israel has not ethnically cleansed Palestinian Arabs, and is, in fact, trying to help them form a state.
True to her revolutionary dogma of fighting oppression and showing how pluralistic she is, Professor Sharoni discusses how she brought her five-year-old daughter to the Holy Land to tour among the Palestinians. She recounts how she let her five-year-old daughter play with the Arab children at an amusement area and how wonderfully they got along together. The implication is, of course, that the Arabs are being racially
stereotyped by the Jews in the region and if only everyone regarded them as equals we would all be playing together nicely. What a shame Professor Sharoni has not considered other five year-olds like Danielle Shefi (http://www.israel-mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-+Obstacle+to+Peace/Memorial/2002/1/Danielle+Shefi.htm) or Gal Eisenmen
(http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-%20Obstacle%20to%20Peace/Memorial/2002/1/Gal%20Eisenman) and Afik Zahavi
(http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-+Obstacle+to+Peace/Memorial/2004/Afik+Zahavi.htm) who were murdered by Palestinian terrorists because they were Jewish children. They are the some of the real reasons why Israel needs
checkpoints and a security fence.
As further proof of how out of the mouths of some Israeli academics frequently comes drivel is Professor Sharoni’s epiphany about Israel being at fault and an oppressor because of her travels with her five-year-old daughter, Nadia. According to this academic who should be citing her sources (but does not), some unnamed Palestinian shopkeeper told her and Nadia that a stray cat that had an orange ribbon tied to its tail was the victim of Jewish settlers. This academic source of hers, the Palestinian shopkeeper, also told her that Jewish settlers tie orange ribbons to the tails of cats all over the area as a normal policy to express umbrage at being deported from their homes. Professor Sharoni’s reaction to all of this is to lecture that the mistreatment of animals by Jews who live in Judea and Samaria is only indicative of the kinds of people who are also mistreating the poor Palestinians; those who mistreat animals do not mistreat human beings any better as studies of serial killers have shown.
So there you have it: Professor Simona Sharoni’s serious academic study reckons Jews who live in Judea and Samaria are so evil they engage in persecution of pussycats. This actually made it into her lecture as a professional scholar. The fact that this Women’s Studies maven has nothing to say criticizing the Palestinian persecution of women through honor killings for losing their virginity, even by rape, is very telling of this woman’s mentality. Only more questionable is the mentality of educational institutions that take her scholasticism and activism seriously as some kind of effort serving mankind instead of pandering to and supporting the goals of genuine serial killers in the pursuit of their own specialized racism and quest for jihad. To Professor Simona Sharoni, everything that happens is Israel’s fault and the Palestinians are innocent victims, even their innocent pussycats.
How sad she has the bully pulpit of distinguished universities to ply her nonsense and gobbledygook to students who may know no better.
